Into The Wind...
The design for 'Into the Wind...' is simple and clean, with elements of nature both within the motifs and the colour. The pattern reflects a botanical direction in terms of motifs and patterns and the colour is neutral, with tones of green to reference nature. The design was inspired by nook seating. Lara Wilson sees this space as a quiet and relaxing space, where someone could read, rest or even reflect on the users day. The designer took this feeling along with the botanical theme, and designed a pattern that would be applied on cushions in the nook space. When the designer thinks about relaxing, she imagines the inhaling and exhaling of your breathing. When she relates this to the botanical theme, she thinks of when you blow a dandelion and the petals fly away due to your breath. This pattern creates movement, comfort and a sense of warmth through the use of a dandelion as the motif. Lara started with her own photograph of a dandelion being blown and worked with the image trace function within Illustrator and with colour rendering techniques in illustrator to complete the motif. She then experimented with various patterning techniques within the Pattern Make tool in Illustrator to design a suitable pattern for this space. The final design reflects the initial feeling of the nook space and will also add interest to any room with its warm, moving design.
