Venerable Records
Through the turbulent Reconfiguration, the oldest records became focal points for survivor communities with access to them. In much of the world, they were the only reliable connection to the inundated past, and a source of explication regarding the failings of prior civilisation. Their age and the variety of recordings within them were essential for giving survivors of the Reconfiguration the wisdom to avoid the mistakes of Earths past rulers. Particular records and their lineages became revered, leading to the practice of Galactic Final Memory as we understand it today. These venerable records were altered for longer lifespans, to allow them to integrate the slow recovery of Earths systems, and to develop the aeonic consciousness demonstrated in more modern records. This also led to their enlarged appearance, as they grew slowly and accumulated great stores of information over many generations of humans. They are no longer active, but below the crust their tubular memories are still accessible, cast in carbon-stone forever.
