Yr3Sem1
'Yr3Sem1' explores one of the most prominent effects of sleep deprivation: the blurring of lines between the dream-state and reality. Each portrait mildly exaggerates certain facial features to create a sense of lethargic neurosis, drawing the viewer into a confusingly subtle distortion of reality - similar to that suffered by those severely lacking sleep. As the series progresses, the subject intensifies whilst hands vanish to represent the loss of control also associated with a fragmented emotional state. The subjects intentional anonymity sparks a student-to-teacher dialogue, portraying the struggle to meet the impossible standards set for students in regards to time and work load.
