Designing One Day - Colour Study
'Designing One Day' is a series of illustrated character, environment, and prop designs based on David Nicholls 2010 novel One Day. Visual development of the novel has been undertaken as if preparing for a feature length animated film. The main characters, Emma and Dexter, have contrasting personalities, which are accentuated through individual visual languages focused on colour and shape. Dexters constant and aimless pursuit of sensation juxtaposes Emmas difficulty in fulfilling her own high ideals. This results in a tumultuous relationship that lasts 20 years, following their first night together on the evening of their graduation.
