13.1 million tonnes of textiles is trashed each year by Australians alone. 48% of this trash is resusable textiles. Decomposition of fabrics produces methane. 90% of the heat added to the climate system by humans is absorbed by the oceans, contributing to coral bleaching. Coral and algae depend on each other to survive. Algae is coral's primary food source and also gives coral its colour. When coral is stressed due to increased ocean temperature or pollution, this relationship can become distressed. Algae will then leave the coral tissue, turning the coral white making it more susceptible to disease and eventually lead to its death, bleaching the coral. 40% of the Earths coral is already lost due to bleaching. 'Nought' embodies the issue of ocean change in relation to coral bleaching into its garments through zero waste design techniques. We strive to create a global awareness about coral bleaching and promote individuals and companies alike to think about where their textile waste ends up.
