'Happy Little Vegemite' explores inclusion and exclusion within Australian culture. It is wonderful to be proud of your country and fly the flag with honour; however, through national celebrations, one must question, who is being excluded? Australia welcomes other cultures, as long as they 'fit in' with the White Australian way of life. With so many Southern Cross tattoo cover-ups, symbols of Australian patriotism have been hijacked by ultra-nationalists. Being adorned in the flag begins innocently enough; however, the more it is repeated, it begins to take a detrimental turn, ultimately demanding 'you match this amount of Aussie or get out.'
